Shortly after I started seriously investing in myself so that I could learn from others so I didn’t have to make my own mistakes.
I DID learn from others and I still made a lot of mistakes. Really stupid mistakes. Mostly because ‘I thought I knew better’ so followed my own ideas.
Well, THAT was expensive – not just in money but in time and energy too.
Over the years I continued to invest in myself and as a Business Coach and Professional Speaker I saw way too many overworked, stressed Business Owners who were not in the position they visualised (or expected) when they first went into business for themselves. I’ve seen grown men (and women) cry at the cost to themselves and their families of being a business owner.
And I started to realise that while I honestly believed I could ‘help everybody’, I had to find a way that I could do that in a way that was sustainable for my own life and business.
When I met my partner in life and business – Andy Gwynn – back in 2003 - we quickly realised we were both passionate about life and business and helping people get the right mix for them.
Ever since then we’ve been running a quarterly workshop – and that was the extent of the original ‘90dayplanning’. It was set up for our 1:1 Business Coaching clients to attend and then we opened it up to allow non-clients to come into the room and share the models and tools and resources.
People loved it.
The testimonials were heart-warming and there were often tears in the room as people realized what had been holding them back and saw that there were solutions and that so many others had experienced the same kind of problems and challenges.
They were not alone.
Suddenly we were hearing that while being a business owner was ‘tough’ or ‘lonely’ or that they suddenly had people ‘who understood’ and who they ‘could talk to’ and ‘share experiences with’ – they had a safe place to open up, to grow and to share.
Sounds great . . . and it was.
But it wasn’t enough. Not nearly enough.
Business owners would leave so grateful, so fired up, motivated and full of great intentions for what they were going to do.
“I can’t wait”, “I’ll be back in 90days”, “this quarter is going to be SO different”.
They were just some of the things we heard, again and again.
Some didn’t come back because they said ‘Oh I just need to do the things I’d planned but didn’t get everything done’. Some said they’d be 'embarrassed to come back' and admit they’d 'not achieved' what they’d been so sure they would.
Even others thought they knew what they needed to do so just needed more time to do it.
That’s when we realised people needed more support...
